Kiln Vector · free, in your browser
Open an Adobe Illustrator (.ai) file without Illustrator
Most .ai files are saved with PDF compatibility switched on (Illustrator's default), and Kiln Vector opens those with editable paths, text and colours.
Open an AI file No sign-up. Files never leave your device.
How to open an AI file
- Click Open an AI file and choose the .ai file.
- Select and edit objects; ungroup with Object › Ungroup if needed.
- Export what you need: SVG for the web, PNG for documents, PDF or EPS to send to a printer.
Good to know
Files saved with Create PDF Compatible File turned off contain no PDF data and can't be opened outside Illustrator. Ask the sender to re-save with that option on, or as PDF or SVG.
