Resize an image online, free

Change an image's width and height to exact pixels, a percentage, or a print size in inches or centimetres. Kiln Photo resizes on your own device with high-quality resampling, so nothing is uploaded and there's no watermark.

Resize an image No sign-up. Files never leave your device.

How to resize an image

  1. Click Resize an image above, then choose your photo in the file picker (or drag it onto the page). JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF and PSD all work.
  2. The Image Size dialog opens. Keep the chain link on to preserve the aspect ratio, then type the new Width or Height in pixels, percent, inches or centimetres.
  3. Pick a Resample method: Bicubic Sharper for making images smaller, Preserve Details or Bicubic Smoother for making them larger.
  4. Click OK, then use File › Export As to save a JPG, PNG or WebP at the quality you want.

Tips

  • To make a file smaller in kilobytes, resize first and then lower the JPG or WebP quality in Export As.
  • For a print, set Resolution to 300 ppi with resampling off: the pixel count stays the same and only the print size changes.
  • To change the canvas without stretching the picture, use Canvas Size instead.

Questions

Will resizing reduce quality?

Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Enlarging adds pixels that weren't there, so very large increases look soft; Preserve Details helps up to about 2×.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Kiln Photo runs in your browser through WebAssembly; the file is read and resized on your device.

Can I resize several images at once?

Not yet in the browser. Resize them one at a time, or use an action from File › Automate in a desktop build.
