Remove a white background from an image or logo

Logos, signatures and product photos often come on solid white. Select the white with Color Range, invert, mask, and you have a clean transparent PNG.

Remove white background No sign-up. Files never leave your device.

How to remove a white background

  1. Click Remove white background and open your image. Select › Color Range opens.
  2. Click the white area with the eyedropper and raise Fuzziness until all of the background is selected but none of the subject.
  3. Click OK, then Select › Inverse so the subject is selected.
  4. Choose Layer › Layer Mask › Reveal Selection, then File › Export As › PNG.

Tips

  • Use Layer › Matting › Remove White Matte to clean up the light halo around anti-aliased edges.
  • For a signature, set the layer's blend mode to Multiply instead: white disappears without any masking.

Questions

Why are there white specks inside my logo?

Those are white areas inside the subject that Color Range also picked up. Paint over them on the mask with white.
